Demographic Features of Goan Population in 2011


            Introduction

 As per the Census 2011, for the first time in the last decade, females have outnumbered males in Goa which has recorded a 8.17% growth in overall population.Director of Census Operations A K Wasnik told that since 2001, population of the state has been increased by 1.10 lakh to 14. 5 lakh of which 53,463 are males and 56,592 females.                                                               

The enumeration data also revealed that overall literacy rate in the state stood at 87.40 per cent and the same is 92.81 percent among males and 81.84 percent in females.

Goa Population 2011 

As per details from Census 2011, Goa has population of 14.59 Lakhs, an increase from figure of 13.48 Lakh in 2001 census. Total population of Goa as per 2011 census is 1,458,545 of which male and female are 739,140 and 719,405 respectively. In 2001, total population was which males were 687,248 while females were 660,420. The total population growth in this decade was 8.23 percent while in previous decade it was 14.89 percent.

Recently as per Goa census data, 78.85% houses are owned while 17.41% were rented.


Goa Rural Population 2011

Of the total population of Goa state, around 37.83 percent live in the villages of rural areas. In actual numbers, males and females were 275,436 and 276,295 respectively. Total population of rural areas of Goa state was 551,731. The population growth rate recorded for this decade (2001-2011) was 37.83%.

In rural regions of Goa state, female sex ratio per 1000 males was 1003 while same for the child (0-6 age) was 945 girls per 1000 boys. In Goa, 54,014 children (0-6) live in rural areas. Child population forms 9.79 percent of total rural population.

In rural areas of Goa, literacy rate for males and female stood at 91.71 % and 81.92 %. Average literacy rate in Goa for rural areas was 86.65 percent. Total literates in rural areas were 431,271.

   Goa Urban Population 2011

Out of total population of Goa, 62.17% people live in urban regions. The total figure of population living in urban areas is 906,814 of which 463,704 are males and while remaining 443,110 are females. The urban population in the last 10 years has increased by 62.17 percent.

Sex Ratio in urban regions of Goa was 956 females per 1000 males. For child (0-6) sex ratio the figure for urban region stood at 940 girls per 1000 boys. Total children (0 6 age) living in urban areas of Goa were 90,597. Of total population in urban region, 9.99 % were children (0-6).

Average Literacy rate in Goa for Urban regions was 89.95 percent in which males were 93.21% literate while female literacy stood at 82.31%. Total literates in urban region of Goa were 734,216



                Conclusion

In my opinion  population has been is more likely rised in 2011 as compared to 2001 census. More population is in urban areas as compared to rural areas. The female population is more in urban areas. Urban areas has more sex ratio, population growth. Urban areas has more population as there will be more employment hospitals, proper highly educations, jobs, health facilities etc. In rural areas there will be not that 
much proper facilities.
